Catherine Crilly, violin instructor
Catherine Crilly has been performing and teaching through out Chicago and the Greater Chicagoland Area for over 10 years. She hold a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from DePaul Unitetsity. At DePaul, Catherine had the privilege of studying under world renowned violinist Ilya Kaler. She also gained pedagogical knowledge through Olga Kaler and her book An Effective Method for Teaching and Studying Violin Technique.
At the age of four, Ms. Crilly began studying violin at thought the Suzuki Method at the Western Springs School of Talent Education. Her studies with Edward Kreitman influence her own teaching today. Ms. Crilly toured with the Suzuki school across Italy in the summer of 2000.
Ms. Crilly found her deep love for orchestral playing while being a part of Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. She learned much about the orchestra repertoire, playing in a large group, leadership and commitment to the instrument. She went on to tour with CYSO in 2007 to Germany, Czech Republic, and Poland where she played on some of the most sought after stages in Europe!
Ms. Crilly has since graduated from her Masters work at DePaul and has concentrated on growing her studio here in Chicago and in the Southwest suburbs. Her experience as a soloist, chamber player and orchestral musician all help her take on the role as teacher. Through teaching, Ms. Crilly passes on her own love of the instrument to her students. Through her love of the violin and her expertise from years of teaching and playing, Ms. Crilly helps her own students discover their own passion for music.

My son's love for music was deepened through the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute program! He was nurtured with loving and patient teachers who encouraged and motivated him. This is a highly recommended Institute and the director's vision for her students is simply Amazing! Also the parents are very supportive to one another as well as to each other's children...such an AWESOME village for thriving children!
