Kathryn Satoh, violin instructor
Kathryn Satoh, founding violinist in Bow & Hammer, is quickly establishing herself as both a performer and educator within the Chicagoland area. Since her post-collegiate arrival to Chicago in 2011, she has been privileged to perform in groups such as the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Oistrach Symphony Orchestra, and 42nd Parallel. Primarily working to develop Bow & Hammer, she has played for David Taylor, Cliff Colnot, and Nyela Basney, and recently traveled to Orvieto Italy as a member of the featured ensemble for the Orvieto Musica 2014 festival. Also an active vocalist, she has performed with the Grant Park Music Festival Chorus and the American Chamber Opera.
Ms. Satoh began her violin education at age 5. Throughout her childhood she studied with Edward Kreitman, Thomas Wermuth, and Cornelius Chiu in the suburbs of Chicago. She continued her studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she earned two Bachelor of Music degrees in Violin and Voice performance under the teaching of Lina Bahn (Corigliano Quartet) and Patrick Mason. Her passion for chamber music led her to work with chamber music coaches including Judith Glyde (Manhattan String Quartet), Erika Eckert (Cavani Quartet), Nyela Basney (Orvieto Musica), and members of the Felici Piano Trio. As a music educator, Ms. Satoh is registered as a Music Together Teacher and Suzuki Violin teacher. She received her teacher training from Edward Kreitman and Dr. Lili M Levinowitz. Ms. Satoh teaches violin and voice in various locations throughout the Chicagoland area. 720-310-0210 kathrynsatoh@gmail.com teaching location: private residence in Hyde Park teaching days: by appointment, call or email Kathryn for available times |

My son's love for music was deepened through the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute program! He was nurtured with loving and patient teachers who encouraged and motivated him. This is a highly recommended Institute and the director's vision for her students is simply Amazing! Also the parents are very supportive to one another as well as to each other's children...such an AWESOME village for thriving children!
