Pathways: High School Internship Program

Picture
The  Pathways program at the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute bridges the gap between the acquisition of musical proficiency on an instrument and the practical application of that skill in real-world academic, performance, and other professional environments. Interested students may seek to become music educators, pursue an undergraduate music performance degree, or may simply wish to highlight their musical achievements to enhance a college application. In any case, Pathways students develop practical skills while being exposed to a  variety of careers and educational options within the music  industry.

Students admitted to the program will be matched with faculty  and professional musician mentors. Through observations and apprenticeships, students gain first-hand knowledge of the fundamentals of their career paths of  interest. They have the opportunity to participate in workshops or internships  with local music and business professionals, thus acquiring a better sense of  the variety of career and educational options available to those with an  interest in pursuing music at the professional level.

Students who are 17 and 18  years old will be guided through the process of applying for membership in the Suzuki Association of Americas, and through the subsequent process of gaining Suzuki Book 1 certification.

Our community partners include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago  Sinfonietta Orchestra, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Suzuki Association of  the Americas, Tai Murray, Hans Jensen, Reginald Robinson, and 5090 Music Group.
